St. Joseph Public Schools – A Great Place to Learn
We believe the St. Joseph School District is “a great place to learn” because our teachers are committed to their students and our Board of Education and administrators are dedicated to meeting the intellectual, social, physical and career development needs of our students.
Our focus is on meeting the needs of each child – our mission statement is: Educating each child for success. We do that by providing quality teachers – teachers who are trained and experienced. We are accountable to you for providing quality education to the children of this community.
Here are some of our “marks of quality:”
- Six of our elementary schools earned 14 Top Ten school rankings, based on their achievement on our state’s standardized test.
- Our District has two National “Blue Ribbon School” – Field Elementary – Ellison Elementary - two of a handful in the state.
- Our District has three “Gold Star Schools” – Bessie Ellison Elementary School, Eugene
- Field Elementary School, and Coleman Elementary School – one of the highest academic awards given by the state.
- Our District received the Commissioner’s Award for Professional Development.
- Our elementary schools outperformed the state on both the MAP math and communication arts tests – placing more students in the Advanced and Proficient levels and fewer students in the Below Basic level.
- The average experience of our staff is 14 years, which means your children benefit from our teachers’ training and experience.
- We have a 1:21 teacher to student ratio in grades kindergarten through six.
- Our teachers are required to attend professional development programs; generally, they devote at least 50 hours annually to skills’ enhancement.
- More than $1 million in scholarships is awarded to our graduating seniors annually.
- A state of the art fiber optic network connects every classroom to the Internet.
- We work hard to provide a safe learning environment – we are a “Showcase District,” as designated by the Missouri Center for Safe Schools.
- We are accountable to you through state and national standardized test results.
